July 16

Rooftops, Findlay Market, Cincinnati. I decided to walk the 1.1 mile from my hotel to the historic market, not realizing the street would take me through a poor urban neighbourhood where I did not feel entirely safe. However, I survived with only minor harassment ("Hey snowflake! I'm talkin' to you, snowflake!") and made a new friend at the market, a big, black, toothy Deaf man who sold me a cold drink. We conversed happily in sign language for a while and I promised to come see him on my next visit to Cincy.

I like the drawing with all the layers and shapes of the buildings and flags. Your story reminds me of a similar walk a friend and I took against the advice of our hotel staff in Costa Rica. We found ourselves in a terrible area surrounded by drunks and prostitutes and piles of burning garbage. I was mugged and knocked down (though I fought the guy off and he didn't get my fanny pack) and my boyfriend was circling around and around with the mugger's partner who had a switchblade. I screamed my head off and somehow we escaped. I've been a lot more careful since then. Sorry for going on and on, but your drawing was quite evocative, apparently.

Lovely lines and patterns, Hashi and thanks for your comments on my blog - I'm completely wiped today and making mistakes in everything I do :)

I love rooftops. There is a whole other world up there if we only raise our eyes and look up for a change! :o) Glad you made it out of that neighbourhood safely.

Glad you survived it. I like the poetry of the harrassment nevertheless.
