At first I posted a photo of this little assemblage humanoid I made, but now I like the illustration better.

Today my beautiful Australia Day baby turns 18. Happy birthday, Rhea. I love you and miss you more than words can say. Have a drink for me.

Blind contour of the view from my bed. Those are house finches and a lesser goldfinch, in case you can't tell :-)

EDM Challenge #19: Draw something you've made. I made Bruce a few years ago, from a pattern by Australian dollmaker Lynne Butcher. He looks too slim in my illustration, and I ran out of paper before drawing his boots. So I've included a photo to show what he really looks like. He's on his way to the Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras in Sydney. And yes, he has "protection" in his shoulder bag.

It's finally getting chilly here in L.A., and today I felt the need to supplement my meager winter wardrobe. As well as the functional sweaters, the racks at Out of the Closet yielded a couple of flirty tops ... at a buck each, I didn't care that they weren't really required right now.

Today is my Dad's 74th birthday. He is not leading the family in prayer in this photo -- he is reciting The Man From Ironbark at the Second Occasional Family Talent Quest held in Queanbeyan, NSW in July 2005. Happy birthday, Dad. I love you.

Blind Contour Buddhas*. I threw water on them ... listen to them scream, "I'm melting! I'm melting!"
*Blind Contour drawings are done looking at the object, but not the paper. See links to scads of them over at Inkfinger.

Blind contour of a fake flower/fruit arrangement in a meeting room I happened to be in today. I think it looks way less plastic now. More blind contours are in the links at Inkfinger.

I finished the bound album tonight. I learned the binding method from Smith's Sewing Single Sheets. It's called "Single Sheets Sewn Onto Tapes" and it allows the pages to lay flat when open.

I have a LOT to learn about drawing people. Even though I had a photo for reference, I didn't make my daughter look like a little girl. In fact, she looks a bit like one of my ex-boyfriends. Sorry, Tui. I'll keep practising.

I received Karen Michel's new book yesterday, and today I played with one of the techniques she mentions, using gesso and water-soluble crayons over a printed image.

My blind contour mannequin is considering vampyrism, so, for practice, is biting his own neck. See other blind contours at Inkfinger.

I have so much cooking stuff, that I've decided it qualifies for EDM Challenge #31: Draw something you collect. Here are the latest additions to the collection.

Everyday Matters challenge 48 - "Draw something that represents your new year's goal or resolution". I was actually working out six days a week until Christmas Eve, when I hurt my back. So I know I can do it again, when I'm finally mended (SOON!). In the meantime I have taken up yoga, and I'm loving it.

One of the things I do to earn a quid is design and create props for TV shows and movies. I particularly enjoy designing liquor labels, so was pleased when I received this assignment. Look out for it in a blockbuster movie this summer!
