June 8

I made another bag, from two tea towels and a remnant of a Martha Stewart design I picked up yesterday for a dollar (total) at the thrift store. The buttons I bought in New York recently. I thought it might be My New Bag, but it's not. Guess it's another for the Christmas Boutique.

Tonight Josh and I went to see a live taping of A Prairie Home Companion at the Greek Theatre. This is my third time attending this annual event; I always love it. During intermission Garrison Keillor invites those who don't need to rush off and relieve themselves to join him in singing a few songs. Tonight we sang Home on the Range, America the Beautiful (four verses) and .... our wedding song! I Can't Help Falling In Love With You. We slow waltzed in the aisle as we sang ... so romantic!

A few rows behind us, an elderly man was seated in a wheelchair with a blanket over his head (it was a bit chilly). He saw me sketching him and just smiled and kept singing. What a lovely evening.

thanks for your really sweet and genuine drawings. looks like you are not afraid to draw in public like i am. maybe i'll get some courage from watching you. this guy looks like he was flattered that you were drawing him.

also, love the bag. did you use a pattern, or like it do...make it up?

I love visiting your blog! You are inspiring me to run out buy some fabric and make a skirt! The bag is adorable as well but I have way too many bags already!

I was listening to NPR this afternoon and they were broadcasting the Prarie Home Companion from the Greek....I must have heard your voice in there somewhere!

What is the Christmas Boutique - do you sell stuff or give it away?

Alison, every year I hand make Christmas gifts for my family and friends. This year, I've decided to post photos of all of the items I make on the web in about October, and invite the recipients to select which one they want. I've had an enthusiastic response to the idea from a few loved ones, so I'll see how it goes! The idea is that people will get something they really like, and I will learn a little about people's tastes. Having lived apart from most of them for a decade now, I worry that I'm 'off the mark' with my gifts. Of course, everyone's too polite to let me know that! Anyways, it's an experiment ...I'll let you know how it goes.

Hashi, I can't find the comment I left yesterday! I love your bag, your skirt, and your charming drawings. So fun to visit you.
I think I like it best that you use recycled fabric too!

what a lovely evening at the Greek!! When we lived in LA, we went to the Hollywood Bowl a few times, and they are some of my fondest memories...
