As Josh said at intermission, "This is not Oklahoma!" Next to Normal is an in-your-face, disturbing, powerful, rock musical that deals with mental illness, drug addiction, grief, loss, growing up, psychiatric treatments, isolation and dysfunctional family relationships. Those who have first hand experience with any of the above (haven't we all?) might find it extremely uncomfortable. Until the very end, there's not much 'feel-good' about it. But I loved it.
The price of love is loss,
But still we pay.
We love anyway.
And when the night has finally gone.
And when we see the new day dawn.
We'll wonder how we wandered for so long, so blind.
The wasted world we thought we knew,
The light will make it look brand new.
So
Let it
Let it
Let it
Let it
Let it
Shine, shine, shine.
If you get the chance, go.
